New COVID-19 restrictions: All hotels restaurants must close and only room service will be provided.

The Prime Minister Hon Dr Robert Abela has ordered more measures from tomorrow 11th March up to 11th April 2021 amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Prime Minister Robert Abela, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Dr Chris Fearne and Superintendent of Public Health, Prof Charmaine Gauci, in a press conference announced that:

  • All restaurants, snack-bars and kiosks can continue provide take-away service and delivery;

  • All hotels restaurants and their ancillary services in hotels must close and only room service will be provided;

  • No weddings and receptions can be held;

  • Gyms, spas, pools, cinemas, museums, theatres, and religious activities banned except funerals;  

  • Closure of non-essential shops and services including hairdressers, barbers, beauty shops, clothes shops, furniture, jewellery shops, toyshops, beauty shops and clothes shops;  

  • Crossings to Gozo will be limited to essential travel;

  • Public group gatherings are being limited to four persons from the current six persons;

  • All sports activities are banned;

  • Non-urgent surgery to be postponed;

  • The schools closure starts on Monday and teaching will revert online.

These new measures apply until April 11 and business establishments that are being ordered to close with these new measures will benefit from the full wage supplement
